Introductory Sommelier Certification Course

July 9 - 10

The Court of Master Sommelier's Introductory Sommelier Course is being held July 9 - 10, 2012 at the Montage Deer Valley (9100 Marsac Avenue, Park City, UT 84060).

The Court of Master SommeliersTM charter is to improve standards in the beverage industry, and is the most internationally recognized examining organization in the industry. The Court is an examining body geared toward those in the service industry. There are four examination levels including the Introductory Course & Exam, Certified Sommelier Exam, Advanced Sommelier Course & Exam and Master Sommelier Diploma Exam.

The intention of the Introductory Sommelier Course is to provide individuals with a very well rounded beverage expertise following the most rigorous standards. It is a two-day educational course ending with a multiple-choice theory examination on the second day. Candidates must learn by reading, tasting and practicing your service techniques independently. A course reading list and topic outline is available for your review. The reading list includes a list of books to use for reference. The outline follows the PowerPoint presentation that will be used during the class and contains subject matter you should be familiar with. In preparation, it's recommended that students acquire a good encyclopedia, such as The Wine Bible, by Karen MacNeil. The basic points of beer and spirits production should be covered as well.

The exam for the Introductory Course is a 70 question, multiple choice exam so you will not be tested on your service or tasting ability at this stage. The Introductory Sommelier Course & Exam is open to anyone interested in pursuing the highest standards of wine service and product knowledge. The Introductory Sommelier Course & Exam is also a prerequisite for the Certified Sommelier Examinations, which includes a written theory exam, a blind tasting exam and a practical wine service exam.

The Course is limited to 100 seats. You must be 21 years of age to participate. Please review the cancellation policy.
